This blog has had many faces since it's creation. It started out as DIY and home improvements, turned wedding blog, turned half marathon training and fundraising, and now it will see a new face as a teacher blog!
I have been in the classroom since my graduation in 2009, but it was always in someone else's classroom; either as a paraprofessional, associate teacher, and long term substitute. While I have had wonderful experiences, learned and seen lots, I am finally venturing into my very own classroom! I'm hoping to document my new experiences as a fourth grade teacher.
My first teaching post will be linking up with Tara at 4th Grade Frolics for Monday Made It {i prefer made it monday, but whatev}
I have started two projects for my room that unfortunately, neither are completed, but they have a good start.
T-Shirt Pillow Cases
Like I said earlier, I have been in the classroom {several classrooms} since 2009 and I have collected tons of Elementary School T-shirts from all four schools I have taught in. I got four shirts in one year from one school.
I have a problem with getting rid of t-shirts because they are a connection for me, but when am I ever going to wear them again if I don't work at that school anymore?
Make them into something! The plan is to create large pillows to keep in my reading center. Here's my pile of school t-shirts:
I cut the middle out of each t-shirt and sewn them together.
After I made two out of my school shirts, I decided to make one out of my Alma Mater, Missouri State University.
I had a slight anxiety cutting these up, but honestly, I hardly wear them. I don't workout in t-shirts and it's not like MSU is broadcasted on TV here in FL, so I don't need to wear them on game day. I figured if I ended up getting real butt hurt about it, I could order from the online store for more. So I put on my game face and got out the scissors.
This was my plan, it was a lot more difficult than the other ones because of all the pieces, the final product may include glue…
Once I attach the backing and add stuffing or pillow inserts I'll post the final product.
Hall Passes Board
Slightly embarrassing, but this is the only picture I have so far. I've since painted it and added words, but this will eventually a holder for my hall passes {girl & boy bathroom, nurse, & office}
I've painted the boards white with red polka dots and the letters in black. I'll take the final picture when, that too, is completed. Maybe by next Made it Monday, if too many cocktails don't get in the way this holiday weekend.
In order to learn as much as I can about 4th grade, I have sot out the guidance of other bloggers out there, so check out 4th Grade Frolics for her Monday Made It!
Congratulations on getting your own classroom. I guarantee that all of your past experiences will help shape and mold what type of teacher you will want to be. I know when I was a para and subsitute in many classes, it taught me what kind of teacher I didn't want to be. Good luck on all your prep for the new year. Get as much rest as possible!
